As you may or may not know, I will be traveling on a medical mission to El Salvador this August with the Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children (FIMRC). FIMRC’s Global Health Volunteer Program allows students and professionals alike the opportunity to learn about global health at its various clinic sites around the world. I am asking for donations so that this trip can be possible.

FIMRC is a 501(c)(3) global non-profit organization founded in 2002 in Washington, D.C., and is dedicated to improving the lives of children worldwide by providing medical support and health education. As its primary mission, FIMRC establishes and maintains pediatric medical clinics in underserved regions. This includes staffing the clinic with local physicians and nurses; sponsoring international volunteers at its clinic sites; and raising funds for medical equipment and supplies. FIMRC encourages young professionals to study global health through chapters in colleges and universities, and through the establishment of a clinical rotations program for medical and other health professions students. As partnerships and resources grow, FIMRC continues to extend its mission through community outreach and provisional relief efforts.

While in El Salvador, I will be participating in FIMRC’s Project Las Delicias. Las Delicias is an underserved community outside of San Salvador of about five thousand people. The project’s main goal is to provide much needed medical care to the children of this community. As a volunteer, I will engage in numerous tasks, such as: shadowing physicians in clinics, working on dental hygiene projects, discussing with young mothers the importance of nutrition, visiting the local malnourished center, and playing games with the children.

The entire trip will cost the following:

Program Donation- $425 check to FIMRC
Airfare- $640 check to Airline (TBA)
Housing/food/transport- $400 check to FIMRC
TOTAL: $1465

The $425 must be submitted by me by the 26th of April. Next thursday! I'm not sure if everyone knows but next year I will be going to Medical School. This will be much needed experience as well as a way to help children abroad. If you can provide ANY help, please let me know.
